BAR OF THE YEAR 2019

THE TWA TAMS – BAR OF THE YEAR 2019

Perth can officially raise a glass to the best pub in Scotland.

The Twa Tams was crowned bar of the year at the inaugural Scottish Bar and Brew Awards, which were handed out on Monday, September 30.

Having been taken over by popular folk band The Mad Ferret earlier this year, the Twa Tams also won bar of the year for the central region, before walking away with the overall title for the whole of Scotland.

However, it was not just staff at the Twa Tams who were celebrating on the night, with three other Perthshire pubs picking up gongs.

The Venue won best cocktail bar of the year, the Pitcairngreen Inn won country pub of the year, and hotel bar of the year went to Moulin Hotel.

A spokesperson for the Twa Tams said: “The new owners and staff at The Twa Tams are surprised and delighted to have won the bar of the year award at this year’s Scottish Bar and Brew Awards.

“We’d like to thank our staff and management team for their dedication and hard work.

“It’s been an exciting journey so far and now we’re even more motivated to keeping fun, food and music alive in Perth.

BAR OF THE YEAR 2019 – REGIONAL AND OVERALL WINNERS FOR SCOTLAND

“It was a successful night at the awards for Perthshire, with Pitcairngreen Inn, Moulin Hotel and The Venue all winning accolades.

“We’re proud to be part of a thriving independent bar and pub scene in Perthshire.

“This month The Twa Tams has live music every day of the week, including live lunches from 12.30pm on selected days, delicious food, fantastic staff and an excellent drinks selection.”

The awards were dished out at a glittering ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

They aimed to recognised the pivotal role bars and pubs play in Scotland’s economy, and the hundreds of people who work in them.

Heather Reeves, owner of The Moulin Hotel, said: “It was fabulous, and to be honest we were all a bit shocked because there were 12 bars in each category.

“When I saw the other pubs we were up against, I thought we didn’t have a chance.

“The pub at Moulin is quite a unique atmosphere so we are over the moon and we now have a nice trophy to put on display in the pub.

“We have a small microbrewery as well which is a nice addition for our customers, and its good to win the award for the people working in the pub and the brewery.

“There were a lot of entries on the night from Glasgow and Edinburgh, but I really felt Perthshire had a good presence at the awards, and we are totally delighted with the award.”
